A Legendary Proposal at the Top of Aspen Mountain

For some, finding “the one” takes years of searching, but for Wilder, it took exactly one conversation. His Proposal at the top of Aspen Mountain (affectionately known by locals as Ajax) was the culmination of a journey that began nearly eight years ago. Standing at 11,212 feet with the world at their feet, Wilder asked Rachel to spend forever with him in a setting as unique and intentional as their love story.

The Party He Almost Missed

Wilder and Rachel’s story started on March 29th, 2018, at a house party that Wilder almost skipped because it was “too far away.” Looking back, that drive changed his life forever. That very night, he was so struck by Rachel that he texted a buddy and called another to make a bold claim: he was going to marry the girl he just met. While most people wait months or years to know, Wilder knew he wanted to marry Rachel from the first night they talked.

Grace, Kindness, and Intensity

When asked what makes Rachel unique, Wilder points to the way she moves through life. She possesses a rare combination of grace and kindness, yet operates with an intense sense of direction that sets her apart from everyone else. She is “different” in the best way possible—someone who is easy to talk to but leaves a lasting impression. Because she rarely asks for anything, Wilder spent years listening for clues about her dream engagement ring. When he finally got her to describe it, he made sure the ring he presented at the summit was exactly what she had envisioned.

Saying “Yes” Above the Clouds

Choosing a Proposal at the top of Aspen Mountain provided the perfect “high-altitude” energy for such a focused and driven couple. After riding the Silver Queen Gondola to the summit, they walked out to a spot overlooking the rugged peaks of the Elk Mountains.

The moment Wilder hit one knee, the world seemed to stand still. Against the backdrop of the blue Colorado sky and the jagged horizon, Rachel said yes.
