Family Portraits in Aspen: A Tale of Two Iconic Locations

Winter Family Portraits in Aspen

Capturing Family Portraits in Aspen during the holiday season is a magical experience. For this session, we planned a “best of both worlds” approach to showcase the unique charm of the area. We started with the classic, upscale energy of downtown and ended with the vast, snowy vistas that only the mountains can provide. With a large group of seven, including adult children and their partners, the goal was to capture high-quality images quickly and efficiently so everyone could get back to enjoying their winter vacation.

Location One: Iconic Christmas Vibes at Hotel Jerome

For the first half of the session, the family wanted a sophisticated “Aspen at Christmas” scene. We chose the area surrounding Hotel Jerome, which offers one of the most iconic backdrops in the downtown core. The family dressed in their holiday best, perfectly complementing the historic red brick and festive decorations of the hotel.

We focused on various groupings here, ensuring we captured the couple, the three sons together, and the older sons with their respective girlfriends. The urban setting provided a clean, elevated look that feels timeless. If you are looking for similar inspiration for your own holiday session, you can browse my recent family stories here.

Location Two: Mountain Views at Mollie Gibson Park

After the downtown session, the group quickly changed into warmer, casual clothes for an “on the mountain” feel. I recommended Mollie Gibson Park for its accessibility and incredible views. This hidden gem provides a vast mountain scene without the need for a gondola ride, offering a stunning background of snowy valleys and peaks.

Even with the change in temperature, the energy remained high. We repeated the same groupings as the first location, focusing on candid, natural interactions rather than multiple forced poses. Seeing the contrast between the formal downtown shots and the relaxed, snowy park portraits really tells the full story of their Aspen getaway.

Capturing the Moments That Matter

Whether we were standing in front of a historic hotel or overlooking a valley, the focus of these Family Portraits in Aspen was on genuine connection. It was an honor to help this family navigate the best spots in town and deliver a gallery that captures their bond in such a legendary setting.
