Best Engagement Session Tips for Him and Her
What to wear for your engagement session?
FOR HER
Express Yourself – Wear something that feels comfortable and expresses your personality. Choose the outfit that you feel happy in. Whether its bold pair of heels to elongate your legs or fun piece of jewelry, remember to bring a pair of flats if you need a change from your high heels.
Go with the season – Be prepared for any season. If its fall or winter, wear something cozy with autumn inspired colors like a plaid scarf of a fun coat. In the spring or summer time, for one outfit, you can wear some bold colors with fun jewels or pastels with cute heals. Just make sure you don’t blend into the background of where your location is planned.
Color Palette – There is no matching required, but wear outfits that have similar colors to give a balanced feel. It could look out of place if both of you are using totally different color palettes. If you don’t know what colors to choose, go with neutral colors. But have a color that pops and coordinates with each other.
Accessorize – This can bring a more stylized mood with the photoshoot. It can be anything from classic car, pets, favorite jerseys or the perfect manicure for those close up shots. Remember to get your engagement ring cleaned and shined to show it off! Even a fresh bouquet of flowers can be a great way to add some personality to the engagement session!
Mix things up – Bring two outfit changes for your engagement session. You can wear something casual or fancy like a cocktail dress along with a more formal look. This will add extra movement when capturing those moments. Wear something you feel comfortable in, but stylish at the same time!
Makeup – This will be an excellent time to get your makeup trial professionally done. It can help you figure out what makeup you want or what makeup artist you want for your wedding day. You will appreciate it when you look back at your photos looking glowy and gorgeous! If you want, you can also get your hair professionally done to be feel more bold and confident!
FOR HIM
Change outfits – Let’s not forget about the classic suit and tie – you will look dapper! You can also go with a casual look by using layers with a pop of color. Suit pants are versatile, you can dress them up or down with a button up or classic polo.
Details – Don’t forget about accessorizing with suspenders, pocket squares or ties. This will compliment each outfit you wear. It can add more character to the shoot & this is where your personality comes out! A pair of black or brown leather shoes can help the outfit look cohesive as well. Remember to remove any items that might be in your pockets, for example phones and keys so it won’t look distracting.
This couple brought balloons to the shoot and because after he proposed, he took her on a ride in a hot air balloon. It’s always fun to represent your proposal in your engagement session, wether that be through props or the location.
Color Coordination – When wearing a suit, go with solid shades of colors that complement your partners’ outfit. Sometimes a fancy, patterned tie works well, too.
Look sharp – Remember to look well groomed and schedule to get a haircut a week before the engagement session. If you have facial hair, get a trim in a week of advance so it won’t be last minute and accidentally get a razor cut on the day of the engagement session. Go to the dry cleaners a week prior in order to have wrinkle free clothes to help you look put together. Get a good night sleep so you can look refreshed on the day of the photoshoot.
Be yourself – Remember to relax and have fun in the photoshoot. Bring something you can move in and be comfortable in. After all, you will spend the day with your significant other.
TIPS FOR BOTH OF YOU
Location – Choose a place that is significant to both of you. This can be somewhere where you two met for the first time or even where you got engaged. This will be fun to go back and remember where it all started! I love traveling and if the location you choose is at your home location or outside of state (or even the country!) for the engagement photoshoot, it’s sure I will capture some splendid photos. I’ve been all over the country and would LOVE to travel with you to take awesome photos outside of where you normally reside.
Color Your Roots – If you color your hair you will want to make sure that your roots are covered! No one wants their roots looking different than the rest of their hair!
Teeth – Whitening your teeth before a shoot is always a good idea! Everyone wants those pearly whites!
