Engagement Session at Ashcroft and Castle Creek Trailhead

From “Yes” to Forever

One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is documenting every chapter of a couple’s story. Watching their journey unfold is always an honor.I first met Collier and Isabel when I had the honor of capturing their surprise proposal in Aspen, and it was such a joy to see them again for their engagement session at Ashcroft and Castle Creek Trailhead.

Watching couples return after such a meaningful milestone is always special. This session felt like a continuation of the story we began on proposal day, celebrating the excitement of their engagement before they say “I do.”

If you’d like to see how their journey began, you can read about Collier and Isabel’s surprise proposal at Aspen Highlands here.

Winter had given them a breathtaking proposal surrounded by snow-covered peaks. This time, Colorado offered a completely different kind of beauty. Lush greenery, wildflowers, and warm mountain light created the perfect setting to celebrate this exciting season before their wedding day.

Why Ashcroft and Castle Creek Trailhead Are Perfect for Engagement Photos

Ashcroft and Castle Creek Trailhead are among Aspen’s most picturesque locations for engagement photography. The area combines historic charm with expansive mountain views, peaceful meadows, towering evergreens, and winding trails that feel both intimate and adventurous.

One of the reasons couples love this location is the incredible variety. Within a single session, it’s possible to create photographs that feel romantic, editorial, playful, and timeless without traveling far.

Whether you’re drawn to dramatic mountain scenery or quiet moments tucked beneath the trees, Ashcroft offers the best of both worlds.

Why Engagement Sessions Matter

Many couples ask whether they really need an engagement session, especially if wedding portraits are already included.

The answer is almost always yes.

An engagement session gives you the opportunity to become comfortable in front of the camera before your wedding day. You’ll learn how I guide you naturally, discover the poses and interactions that feel most authentic, and build confidence long before the timeline and excitement of your wedding arrive.

By the time the wedding day comes, taking portraits feels familiar instead of intimidating. Couples often tell me it’s one of the best investments they made because they arrive feeling relaxed and excited rather than nervous.

Capturing the Season Between the Milestones

There’s something especially meaningful about photographing couples after the proposal and before the wedding. It’s a season filled with anticipation, excitement, and dreaming about everything that’s ahead.

Rather than focusing on perfectly posed images, this session celebrated the quiet moments between them. Walking hand in hand through the meadows, laughing together beneath the mountains, and simply enjoying the evening created photographs that feel genuine and timeless.

Colorado’s summer landscape provided the perfect contrast to the snowy proposal that started this new chapter, showing just how beautifully every season tells a different part of their story.

Ready for Your Aspen Engagement Session?

Whether you’ve just said “yes” or you’re planning your wedding in Colorado, Ashcroft and Castle Creek Trailhead offer one of the most breathtaking settings for engagement photography.

  • Planning an Aspen proposal or engagement session? I’d love to help tell your story from the surprise proposal all the way to your wedding day.
  • Based in Dallas? I also photograph engagements, weddings, and couples throughout the Dallas area.
